There are four lessons in this unit. They look at some of the "I am" statements of Jesus. They also give us a sense of the divity of Jesus and of His eternal power to promise us life, security, resurrection, and the way of God.

John's use of the "I am" statements of Jesus is seen again in verse 25 when Jesus assures Martha that He is "the resurrection and the life." Jesus affirms Martha's belief in Him as the Messiah.

This passage is part of what is known as "the book of the covenant" Exodus 20:22-23:33), which is the oldesr extant record of Jewish law. Unlike other ancient law codes of ancient Near East, it rests on the authority of God rather than on that of a king.

Celebrate Jubilee - Leviticus 25:8-12, 25, 35-36, 39-40, 47-48, 55

The jubilee year was a year of "release" when people returned to their homes and property reverted to its ancestral owners. The jubilee year began when the ram's horn sounded on the Day of Atonement (v. 9). By observing a year of jubilee, those who are oppressed are given the means for making a fresh start.
