Merit Scholarship

REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION


1. Purpose
To provide scholarships to deserving Zion Baptist Church members who are high school graduates that show promise and commitment for pursuing a degree in a field of their choice at an accredited four year College or University or an accredited two year Technical or Junior College.

2. Policy Statement
The Zion Baptist Church Merit Scholarship Fund shall provide annually, no more than three (3) $2,000 scholarships to high school graduates of Zion Baptist Church who have been involved in the religious training and/or ministries of the Church for at least one year such as the Sunday School, Usher Board, Choir, Scouting, Bible/Mission Study, etc. Applicants for the scholarship must comply with the established guidelines.

3. Eligibility
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS MUST possess an academic grade point average of 2.8 or better on a 4.0 scale.


TO APPLY for the Merit Scholarship, the following items must be submitted by the designated due date:
1. An official Zion Baptist Church Merit Scholarship Application
2. An OFFICIAL High School Transcript
3. Two letters of Recommendation – (1) from the high school Guidance Counselor or a Faculty Member who can attest to the ability of the applicant to do undergraduate studies and (2) from the Church organization in which he/she is a member. Additionally, an ESSAY containing a minimum of 500 but no more than 750 words describing the applicant’s involvement in Church and Community service activities and future aspirations. Applicants must write their own Essay as they may be requested to defend it. The Essay must be TYPED.
Upon official verification of enrollment from the College or University you are attending, the Scholarship will be disbursed in $1,000.00 increments in the Fall Semester of your freshman and sophomore year.
